Strong Times
These are strong times, dear soul. So many lovely humans I speak to are going through an intense transformation. There seems to be a lot of questioning around what to let go of, how to move forward. Some discomfort in wanting to shed old skins of who we have been, yet unsure of who we are becoming. It’s like we are in the chrysalis, the messy soup which transforms the caterpillar into a butterfly. But how frightening that stage of complete dissolving must be before becoming new, how much trust must be involved.
These energies are very much part of the big astrological events this year; the Saturn-Uranus square. In broad strokes we can say that Saturn represents the old systems, structure and limitation whereas Uranus holds new insight, freedom and even a revolutionary spark. A ‘square’ is a tense or challenging aspect, but also holds evolutionary potential. As Saturn has turned retrograde, which means it appears to be moving backwards in the sky (from our perspective on earth), it means that this square doesn’t only happen once but three times this year. Saturn first moved forwards (in February) then backwards at present (the exact point being 14 June) and will again move forwards over this point of tension in December.
If you are feeling the tension with particular intensity it could well be that it is activating certain aspects of your natal chart in an even more personal way. We are for sure seeing this play out in the collective; the push and pull between structure and freedom, old systems and new ways of thinking – and more polarisation than ever it seems.
So how do we work with this – how can we best position ourselves to work the energies rather than being worked by them?
SATURN – think about where structure, determination and discipline have served you well. Examine your fears – are they rooted in reality or in old stories? Ground into the earth, walk barefoot, do a floor-based yoga practice or some restorative poses.
URANUS – feel into your dreams and visions of something new. Where are you yearning for more freedom? Practice alternate nostril breathing and meditate on the third eye, get creative with paints or crayons – enjoy exploring new colours, shapes and textures.
INTEGRATION – with a square being a tense aspect this can be challenging but as we know, times of difficulty are also times of growth. Take some time to journal around the positive aspects of the familiar and the past, as well as the excitement you have around liberating yourself with new ideas. Perhaps there is a way forward which honours both…
Most importantly – take a moment – breathe – appreciate how far you have come!
