REFLEXOLOGIST´S HANDS: MY PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
Having had some time off work recently has enabled me to let my mind wander to places I would not normally have time to go to and delve into a deeper meaning of our ‘handy’ work as reflexologists.
For once this post will not be about my personal experiences or therapeutic approach to a specific treatment, but just my own personal reflections about the meaning of our hands. Always relevant to our profession and hopefully matching the ethos of this Reflexology Network.
We discuss, we share, we ask, we learn and reach out to each other for advice, opinions and approach to treat a specific client and we create an intimate community that supports the greatest scope of reflexologists around the Globe.
Today it is all about our precious hands, the hands that perform such important work and that sometimes get overseen. Our hands, the powerful tool which we use to treat our clients. The physical hands also have a soul, our own soul that enthuses all our energies into trying to make our clients better and providing them with a space for the healing to develop.
The language of the hands is powerful, it is both strong and gentle, it is determined and soothing and it can create or dismantle what is no longer needed. The hands talk to our clients who feel our touch, at times possibly creating some discomfort or dislodging what is congested and at others healing, embracing and caressing the person who we are treating. Our touch provides comfort to the lonely and reassurance to the scared, presence to those who might appear aloof and nurture to those who are in some way deprived.
Our hands come in different shapes and sizes with different textures but when they are at work they all speak a common language, the language of love and care for our client. At times they need to be assertive and at others, they just need to offer a gentle touch. The hands speak without sound but they reach to depths that possibly our speech might be limited to.
And with this little tribute, I would like to hold all your hands in this worldwide reflexology group and invite you all to acknowledge them and nurture them, their power goes far and beyond.
With all my care and respect to everyone 🙏
