Right now I see so many of my private clients feeling stuck, desperate, anxious and unsure about situations in their lives because they’re not creating a space for themselves that involves just them.
That’s right. This space I’m talking about is about doing whatever it is you NEED. You know that acknowledgement of your deepest requirements to feel like your flowing with life and feeling that zing in your gut so you know your right where you need to be? These spaces can feel very few and far between as we navigate this life, so how can we create these much needed moments of space so we fill ourselves up and not knock ourselves out?
You really need to know what it is you need right now. Sounds so simple, and it can be, once you work through everything you think you SHOULD be. And this should be mentality comes from moving from the outside in. We move from the outside in by doing something that solely supports our physical ideals and hectic lifestyle. Most of us are moving so we can create this amazing body of 0% fat/100% muscle, and/or so we can eat and drink whatever the hell we like. Both of these constructs leave little room for the abuse being inflicted upon our nervous system and the communication of what we really need to support ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually.
If I asked you what it is you need right now, what would your initial response be? Now, if I asked you to close your eyes, listen to your inhale and your exhale, following your breath from your nostrils to your stomach and back for 5 minutes, would it still be the same answer? Do you become less reactive with a want and more intuitive with a need?
Working privately with clients to achieve long-term mental, physical and spiritual health, I’ve begun to see how giving them permission to create time for themselves changes the way they see life and how they are feeling it. To know what you need is one of the most empowering tools you can have, but we misinterpret it with modern day life (the biggest miscommunication is the need to eat or clean the house when a strong need starts to charge our body. We’ve learned to numb out our needs at our wellbeing cost). How do we change these habits from eating and cleaning to journalling, painting, walking, whatever it is you need to feel more creatively full?
By creating that space. Someone recently said that the common misconception is that we don’t have enough time to do the things that feed us well. What if we changed time to value? I don’t value myself enough to do (fill in the blank). That really hit home for me, because if I don’t value myself I’m not a great mummy, wife, daughter, sister… So I choose to find the time to do the things that make me a better person so I strengthen that communication of value and respect towards myself.
