The Peri Mess-Understanding
I love my period, but it looks like it’s on its way out – PERIMENOPAUSE HAS ARRIVED!
But as the highly intelligent Vicky Pollard said; “but am I bothered”?
I can’t believe how calm I feel about this, but this is the emotional stability you gain from understanding the many feelings and emotions through hormonal changes your period gifts you whilst you have it. It really does prepare you for the many changes that start to roll on in.
So, how do I know I’m in peri?
- My periods have shortened and are a lot lighter than what they used to be
- My skin’s getting drier
- Brain drops – names mean nothing!
- Anxiety attacks
- My childhood digestion issues have come back with a vengeance.
The last on the list has been my biggest antagonist. It’s something I’ve always suffered with (and is stress related), but the emotional rollercoasters that go with it are phenomenal. I’m using all of my kinesiology knowledge along with support from one of my teachers and leading endocrinologist to find the balance needed to keep me happy on the toilet and emotionally intact! If I hadn’t had the knowledge I have on female health, I would have felt like I was doing something wrong, like a lot of women I support feel. The knowledge is out there for you awesome women, but it can be hard to find if you’re not in an environment that supports it. This is what Prøject Wøman is so great at! It’s a community that offers advice and support without any judgement or expectation. It’s just great to share space with other great women/females/humans with wombs that want to feel great as and who they are! And we bloody deserve too, right?
We’ve met every expectation and goal post given to us and now it’s time to get a little support back. My alter ego, The Peri Princess, basically said she’s off to have as much fun as possible because this phase of life isn’t about proving ourselves – HELL NO! We’ve done enough of that thankyouverymuch. This is the time to dance to more music and laugh until our bellies hurt.
And this is why I’m holding The Feminine Experience next year at The Rewilding. I don’t know about you but I want to let down my hair in one of the most beautiful places in the country, where I can move and stretch and dance to a point that I feel electrified with life and energy, share great conversation with other amazing women and laugh until I cry around a roaring fire.
If you’re feeling all of these feels, there is a space near the ocean for you where the wind gently kisses your skin and reminds you of the beautiful woman you are and always have been my darling.
